Philippine Presidential Contenders after Gloria Arroyo in 2010, choose your bet by writing comments…..

·        Vice President Noli De Castro - The “do – nothing – no -stand – no backbone vice -president”.One of the most popular broadcasters in the country’s history and was known as “lagaring hapon” in the media circle – paid to hit and paid to defend. De Castro topped the senatorial election in 2001 before being elected to Vice Presidency in 2004. He remained loyal to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo after the election-rigging scandal in mid-2005

 

·        Sec. Bayani Fernando - The uncorrupt action man.The third engineer to probably become Philippine President (Magsaysay, Ramos, Fernando).Named Secretary of  the Department of Public Works and Highways and MMDA Chairman. An EDSA hero – as a young businessman, he put his contruction equipments to block the pro marcos tanks that are moving forward and overrun the EDSA patriots.On the record, he has given 11,000 homes to squatters – a record still unmatched by any presidentiables up to now. He fixes the houses of the squatters in  his Metro Guwapo Projects. He provides cheap temporary shelters to the promdis who are in Manila. He fought with Generals who are protecting the colorum buses by grounding them, in favor of the poor jeepney drivers. He recovers the sidewalks for the poor to walk on and play, against politically connected and rich illegal occupants of  the sidewalks who are protected by kotong cops. He was a Sacristan as a young kid in Marikina, and up to now, still gives fund raising concerts for the Church together with the Three Tenors. He is willing to die for the Filipinos.

·        Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Angelo Reyes - One of the Three Tenors and former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the military hero of the 2001 People Power Revolution that ousted former President Joseph Estrada. Reyes later became the Secretary of National Defense before being appointed Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources. Like De Castro, he remained loyal to Preisdent Arroyo after the election-rigging scandal.

 

·        Senate President Manuel Villar - The “balimbing king” former House Speaker and now Senate President Manny Villar is one of the most respected politicians today. Villar heroically impeached former President Estrada in the House of Representatives and was one of the heroes of the second People Power Revolt in 2001.If he needs Erap, he will go to Erap. If he needs Gloria, he will go to Gloria. He can make a pact with the devil without any qualm – a very dangerous man.

 

·        Senator Manuel Roxas III - The “tradpol” former Secretary of Trade and Industry and one of today’s most respected politicians. Roxas was the son of former Senator Gerardo Roxas and the grandson of former President Manuel Roxas. He topped the senatorial race in 2004 election and garnered the highest number of votes by a senator in history (breaking the previous records of Noli De Castro and of Gloria Arroyo). He is an elite, for the elite and by the elite.

 

·        Former Senator Loren Legarda-Leviste - The “loser  and a second wife” and one of the country’s most respected journalists and holds the distinction of being the highest ranking woman officers in the Army’s Reserve. Legarda was elected senator in 1998 before losing the Vice Presidency to her former ABS-CBN colleague Noli De Castro in 2004. She is one of the wives of a murderer.

 

·        House Speaker Joe De Venecia - one of the most respected politicians in
Asia and one of the President’s most important allies. De Venecia and former President Fidel V. Ramos were the founding fathers of the ruling Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats that currently produced two President. De Venecia was many time elected House Speaker in the House of Representatives. He lost the Presidential Election in 1998 to former President Estrada. 

 ·        Senator Edgardo Angara – former Senate President and leader of one of the country’s largest political party, Laban Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP). He twiced give way to run for presidency in 1998 and 2004.

Potential presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Philippines

Noli de Castro
(Independent)		 Known as “lagaring Hapon” in the media circle, he is known as a lameduck vice president, with no official stand on lots of issues.De Castro successfully ran for senator as an independent candidate during the last 2001 senatorial election, though he campaigned with the opposition. He garnered more than 16 million votes, the highest ever for a senator in the history of Philippine politics at that time.In the 2004 Philippine election, De Castro ran for vice president and won by a narrow margin over Senator Loren Legarda but an electoral protest was filed by the latter and is still on-going.Political résumé:

Mar Roxas
(LP)		 Man of the elites and for the elites,Roxas garnered the highest votes in the Philippine election history when he ran as Senator, many people had already made him a potential presidential candidate by 2010. While he has been coy on his plans for 2010, the Mar Roxas for president in 2010 movement has been gathering steam with the Liberal Party revival targeting the youth (considering that the bulk of the voting population is aged below 30 years old). Other signs include the sprouting of Mar Roxas for president spots in cyberspace ([1] and [2]); and his colleagues endorsing him as the party’s standard bearer — Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III declaring him Liberal Party’s candidate for 2010 and Liberal Party’s chair emeritus Jovito Salonga introducing him as “the next president of the Philippine republic.”Political résumé:

(NP)		 The “Balimbing King” who can side with Erap or Gloria depending on his convenient needs, Villar is the party President of the Nacionalista Party and has been mentioned as a potential candidate of the party.Political résumé:

(NPC)		 The “loser and the second wife of a murderer”,Legarda ran for the position of Vice-President as the running mate of Fernando Poe, Jr. during the last 2004 Philippines general election but lost to then Senator Noli De Castro by a very slim margin of 800,000 votes, amid allegations of massive fraud by de Castro and the administration.Political résumé:

(NP)		 On 6 August 2007, Gordon announced that he was considering contesting the Presidential election scheduled for 2010. He also said that he would be organizing a new political coalition from among the parties that have emerged over the past decade, as, in his view, the two traditional parties, his own Nacionalista Party and the Liberal Party, had “nothing to offer.”Political résumé:
Ping Lacson
(GO)		 The “Loser and the Fan of Lito Banayo”,Lacson ran for President in the 2004 general election against the incumbent President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. His candidacy stirred disagreements with its party president, Edgardo Angara. The COMELEC decided to follow what was done in the Quirino-Avelino case splitting the certificates of votes into half. Angara appealed the case before the Supreme Court and reversed the COMELEC decision. Banayo is the strategist of Erap that caused the downfall of the former President. Banayo can not even mobilize 300 volunteers to face the Anti  Erap rallyists from EDSA. Banayo is an eco graduate but likes to post as a political science graduate. “Kung nasaan si Banayo, talo ang kandidato”, this is the reason why Lacson lost.Lacson resigned from the party upon hearing the news. He continued campaigning and in the elections, he finished third, ahead of the late Raul Roco and Bro. Eddie Villanueva.Political résumé:

(Lakas-CMD)		 Fernando is well-known to have introduced efficient vehicular traffic systems, improved flood control and waste disposal,providing homes for the squatters of Marikina City, securing jobs for so many people as MMDA chairman, and raised Metro Manila’s profile through a massive rehabilitation and beautification program. Lakas-NUCD considers him as a potential presidential candidate after noticing that there is a strong clamor for him to run for national public office which includes the sprouting of a Bayani Fernando for President spots in cyberspace [3] and [4] with hundreds of letters from all over the country.Political résumé:

(PMP)		 Estrada, son of former President Joseph Estrada, was being considered by former Senator Ernesto Maceda as a potential presidential candidate together with Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay as his tandem, during a thanksgiving visit of former President Estrada in Vitas, Tondo.Political résumé:

(NPC)		 Escudero, son of former Agriculture Secretary Salvador Escudero III, landed the second spot during the last 2007 senatorial elections. He was one of the pro-impeachment congressmen who were the prime movers for the initiation of impeachment proceedings for current Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.Political résumé:

(PDP-Laban/GO)		 Binay was asked by former Senator Ernesto Maceda to talk and decide between him and Senator Jinggoy Estrada on who among them will run for president and vice president. He said that he is more than capable of running the country if and ever he decides to run for president in 2010.“I think modesty aside and if given the opportunity, I am capable of running the country. (BP)		 Bro. Eddie Villanueva may run for 2010 after some meetings held sponsored by Philippines for Jesus Movement (PJM) conducted in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
